My ADS-B Feed is Up and Running!

I should post here more often, right?! I’m really going to start trying to do better at that. Maybe just short posts like this one.

In any case, I’m happy to announce that my new ADS-B feed is online from the DU0A QTH (Tadhana Heights) in Batangas City, Philippines. For those of you who don’t know, Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is a relatively simple technology used by aircraft to broadcast their position and other key details. So with a software-defined radio (SDR) receiver and an appropriate antenna, it is not too hard to pick up these ADS-B signals from aircraft. So now you can see in real time all the aircraft that are visible from my location. It’s kind of fun just to see what is flying overhead.

I am feeding my data to ADSBexchange.com, which is the world’s largest source of unfiltered flight data, basically crowdsourced from thousands of other enthusiasts like me, all over the world. Now that I’m getting my feet wet with this first installation, I plan (eventually) to deploy additional ADS-B receivers at other locations. At the moment, this installation is using a small indoor antenna, but I intend to improve it with a nice outdoor antenna at some point.

Feel free to check it out!
